Washington, D.C. — The Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) passed the New York state assembly this morning and was sent to Governor Cuomo who is expected to sign it into law. Jim Doyle, President of Business Forward, released the following statement:
“The CLCPA will provide a framework for New York to tackle climate change by significantly reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, while at the same time bringing energy jobs back to the state.”
“New Yorkers spend more than $50 billion each year importing oil, gas, and coal, and CLCPA reforms will bring that spending back to New York, creating jobs and investment across the state,” said Doyle. “By directing 35% to 40% of investment to communities that have suffered most from pollution, CLCPA can create jobs where New York needs them most.
More than 1,500 business leaders in our network have signed onto a letter calling for New York to stop importing $50 billion in oil, gas, and coal each year.
