FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington, DC — Last Friday, the Senate passed a budget resolution to move forward with the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan. Business Forward President Jim Doyle released the following statement:

“Congress must act now to help America’s unemployed and underemployed workers and their families,” said Doyle. “Investments made by the American Rescue Plan will accelerate our economic recovery and provide a quicker return to full employment. Failing to act could cost 4 million jobs and delay our return to full employment by a year.”

“The longer we delay economic relief to schools and state and local governments, the further our students will fall behind. Each additional month of lost learning results in lower wages and lifetime earnings. During this critical time, we must continue to provide financial support to our schools and make additional investments to close learning gaps created by the pandemic.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has hurt our most underserved communities most. In order to get Americans back to work and students back in school safely, we must ensure an equitable distribution of vaccines, educational resources, and small business grants.”

ABOUT BUSINESS FORWARD

Business Forward helps local business leaders make the “business case” for climate action, affordable healthcare, immigration reform, diversity and inclusion, sensible tax laws, criminal justice reform, infrastructure investment, and other pro-growth reforms. These leaders brief policymakers, work with local media, publish op-eds, submit testimony, advocate online, and organize their communities. We also promote their recommendations through issue briefs, survey reports, training manuals, and podcasts. More than 650 mayors, governors, members of Congress, and senior Administration officials have participated in our briefings.
